Float Your Cares Away

When you think of Flotation Therapy, what do you think of?

We thought of a scene reminiscent of a futuristic dystopia with dark, enclosed pods until we dove right into 800 pounds of epsom salt water at Float Frederick right off of Gas House Pike in Frederick!

We walked through their doors on a soggy January day and were welcomed by a pristine, peaceful lobby. The attendant came to get us and gave us a brief overview of what’s involved. We got to tour the beautiful blue facility including their Whisper Lounge for after the float which has tea, chocolate, and coloring pages, as well as a tutorial on how to operate the lights, music, etc in the flotation suite. Their suites are nice and large, and the floating tubs are behind glass doors in the suite, so it’s completely private. Once the main lights are off, they have little nightlights you can take with you if you’re not quite ready to float in complete darkness. The epsom salts in the water completely support youlike completelyand the feeling of letting go is indescribable. There is no risk of drowning because the water is only about a foot deep. People frequently fall asleep in their tubs, talk about relaxation!

We were also impressed by how clean their tubs and facility are. They run a pretty tight ship; everyone must shower with a chemical and fragrance free body wash and shampoo before their float session. The staff told us that it will neutralize any hair products or body lotion you use that could damage their tubs, but don’t worry, there is a private shower in your flotation suite. The epsom salts themselves actually sanitize the tubs after every session, so, when you go, there is no chance of getting the cold we had when we went! (It actually helped one of us get better quicker!)

Their website provides a plethora of information from an FAQ to articles and testimonials about Flotation Therapy. Floating helps with a multitude of problems including joint problems, insomnia, hypertension, PTSD, and it can help with weight loss or detox. We were also surprised to learn that they are not just claustrophobic friendly, but floating can actually help relieve the anxiety associated with all phobias. The staff are also accessible on their Facebook page, so feel free to shoot them a message if you have any other questions about their facility!

Contest Winners Receive Luxury Spa Experience

Ten winners of The Art of Beauty contest, kicked off by FiND iT FREDERiCK, came together last week for a relaxing evening filled with pampering, food, drinks and laughter. Owners and licensed estheticians Laura Charuhas, Connie Sell and Becky Carr greeted guests with warm paraffin hand dips followed by a glorious hand and arm massage. Instantly guests were soaking in the easy atmosphere, enjoying wine and making new friends while awaiting their turn for a 15 minute massage with Katrina Martindale a certified massage therapist and reflexologist. Her hands never seemed to get tired as each person reemerged with the same outstanding sense of satisfaction. To end the entire night, everyone was treated to a custom make-up lesson using Jane Iredale mineral makeup.art of beauty Collage2

If these services aren’t enough to get you excited, the hour and a half European Facial will, according to Connie Sell. “It is a fantastic experience that includes massages of your upper body, face, feet and hands. It’s unlike any other facial you can imagine,” said Sell.

Newly added services include gel manicures and pedicures by nail technician Nicole Brown and an additional massage therapist Barb Trojecki.
