Joint Art Exhibit on the Creek

The C.Burr Artz Library and the Delaplaine are putting their heads together and joint-hosting a wonderful exhibit, “Frederick County Glimpses Past and Present,” that will celebrate the transformation of Frederick City from the 19th century through present day.

Photos of the city’s “past,” from the 19th century and early-to-mid 20th century, will be featured in the Library. These photographs from the FCPL archival collection will be on display in the main entrance way and in the Maryland Room on the second floor.

The Delaplaine will feature a variety of artworks by local artists, including paintings by Deborah Lovelace Richardson and Paula Rubin Wexler, photography by Brady Wilks and Harriet Wise, and sculpture by Homer Yost.

The two facilities are located along Carroll Creek Park in downtown Frederick, the Delaplaine at 40 South Carroll Street and the C. Burr Artz Library at 110 East Patrick Street. Diane Sibbison, the Exhibitions Manager at the Delaplaine, says,  “with both sites only about one block apart along Carroll Creek, we hope that people will visit both portions of the exhibit… It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring local art and local history together, and, as Mary [Mannix, the Maryland Room Manager,] said, raise the visibility of both.”

The public is invited to opening receptions at both locations on Saturday, January 7 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. This exhibit will be open at both locations through February 19th and will be available for viewing daily.

A Frederick favorite returns this Spring for the 6th Annual Juried Plein Air Event presented by Easels in Frederick! Thirty of the nation’s most talented artists and their easels will fill our city and surrounding counties to bring us one-of-a-kind artwork that displays some of our area’s finest scenery.

The painters can be seen from June 13th- June 18th. Monday and Tuesday, expect to see artists scattered around Frederick County paying homage to historic buildings, landmarks, and farmland in the early morning near sunrise and late evening around dusk. This is when the light will yield the most lucent colors and pronounced shadows.

Downtown Frederick invites all participating artists to the downtown scene of their choice on Wednesday, June 14th all day. Thursday through Friday morning, assigned areas will be mapped out for each artist, who must bring their skillset to the table in order to produce the specified scene provided to them by the Juried Plein Air Event officials. Thursday night from 6:30pm-9:00pm, the Frederick Tourism Center will host a special Plein Air presentation by the Awards Judge.
